Directing

My multifaceted experience as an artist are integral to the development of my directing style. I aim to approach each opportunity with presence and reverence to the work. As Sanford Meisner says, β€œThe best gift you can give to someone is the quality of your attention.” I am a vessel in which the story flows through to the actors and they in turn flow through, and inspire, me. It is a cyclical, ever-changing, and essential piece of the learning and collaboration process.

My strong background in educational theatre has shaped the beginning years of my career. While I feel teaching and learning is a critical skill for directors, I feel prepared for a higher level intellectual stretch for my abilities and current knowledge in a more professional setting.

Preparation is just as important as process. Knowledge is power and I aim to equip and exchange knowledge with my collaborators. I desire to explore the versatility of space and our relationship to it, questioning the boundaries of traditional theatrical spaces and the effect of environment. I strive to cultivate connection between actors in safe and supportive ways, fostering open communication and willingness to accept criticism.

In the future, I endeavor to continue to expose myself to works past and present, opening my horizons to any genre. I enjoy reading new works, and gravitate towards highly theatrical, and deeply conceptual stories. I want to explore more BIPOC stories, with an emphasis on egalitarianism and how we can support more diverse narratives.

Current playwrights I enjoy: Tracey Letts, Sarah Ruhl, Lynn Nottage, Lucy Prebble, Ken Ludwig
